Guidelines for Sponsoring A Candidate - Please read each section BEFORE sponsoring someone.
As required for potential candidates, sponsors should be living a lifestyle becoming to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His teachings, and the Church’s teachings.
Before you talk to a potential candidate.
Pray and seek wisdom and guidance from God regarding this person.
Consider how well you know this person.
Do you have insight into their spiritual life?
Am I willing to make a significant commitment to my candidate Before, During, and After the weekend?
If you have questions, ask an experienced community member for guidance.
Is there any reason they should not attend a weekend at this time?
We all have our daily concerns, however, deeply emotional or psychological problems should not be brought to the weekend in the hope of a quick solution. The weekend is not designed to support these very real human conditions.
If the candidate has recently been through a divorce, widowed, entered addiction treatment, or was released from a correctional facility, or other life-changing events, it is highly recommended that the candidate wait at least one year prior to submitting an application.
Candidates should not attend if they are living a life unbecoming of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His teachings, and the Church’s teachings. Example: Unmarried couple living together.
Candidates should be willing to dedicate their everyday lives to God in an ongoing manner.
Talking to your candidate.
Have they reviewed information about Cursillo such as the “About” section of www.wkycursillo.org?
Have you answered their questions clearly?
If they are married, have you spoken to their spouse, and do they understand their need to also attend a Cursillo weekend?
Have you shared with them regarding post-Cursillo participation in a reunion group and Ultreyas?
Are you prepared to support your Candidate?
Arrange to have your Candidate at Cursillo at 7:00 Thursday evening.
Secure needed Palanca prior to the weekend.
Participate in weekend activities to support them.
Assist them in finding and attending a reunion group post-Cursillio.
Attend 2-3 Ultreyas with them post-Cursillo.
Remember not everyone will say yes to an invitation to Cursillo. Those who do, do so in God's time. Be sensitive to who God is leading you to invite, trusting His time and call are perfect.
As with all of us, if someone says yes, it is a Yes to God's invitation.
