Update - Maintenance & Cleaning Teams:
Shower cart and air mattress maintenance team. Mac Travis, Brett Curran, and Jason Cox have agreed to take that on and work with Jason Hedrick, our Pre-Cursillo Chair.
We still need a small team of volunteers to help post-Women's Weekend with a good cleaning and straightening. This group will change every weekend. Ideally made up mostly of individuals who did not work on the weekend. Could stay Sunday after closing or come in Monday or Tuesday? If you are willing to lead this small team, please contact me. 812-499-4292.
Pray for Jon and Krissie and the teams God has provided.
Pray for and ask the candidate God has pointed out to you.
Pray and sign up for acts of service and sacrifice.

Our Mission and Vision
The objective of Cursillo is to develop Christian leaders in the local church for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities, and places of work. Cursillo helps provide a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
The Cursillo Movement was born in the church: it grows and develops, nourished by the wisdom of the church; it serves the church and must always have as its ultimate goal, TO BUILD UP THE CHURCH.

Palanca and Palanca Letters
Ask any Cursillista, and they will likely tell you that their palanca letters ‘blew me away”. Certainly, palanca letters are the first really moving sacrifice the candidates will experience on their Cursillo weekend. As you consider writing a letter to every candidate and perhaps the team, here is some instructive information on palanca.
Palanca, the Cursillo defines it as a lever used to move or lift a load. What is the load we desire to be lifted or moved? Answer: Resistance. This resistance is to God’s grace, and each candidate will have that resistance to varying degrees. Resistance can be a heavy weight that cannot be lifted alone; however, our palancas enable a candidate to lift something beyond his or her own strength.
We often think of palanca as a letter or something cursillo-themed for the table (table palanca). We do encourage you to write Palanca Letters and make table palanca. Please note that a letter, in and of itself, is NOT palanca. The actual palanca is the action – intercessory prayer, sacrifice, or works of mercy are examples of palancas.
We can provide palancas silently through our prayers and works of mercy. How wonderful that our unknown acts help lift someone's burden.
What about a “Palanca Letter”? Yes, please write letters, but consider a sacrifice you can share in your letter. It is obvious that sending cards of good wishes is well received by each candidate, but remember it is not the letter that is essential; it is the palancas. When our sacrifices are shared in a letter, this testimony softens the heart of the candidate a bit more, and their resistance is made a little lighter.
A few examples of moving sacrifices from palanca letters are: I gave up all sweets this week for you, I am sleeping on the floor this weekend for you, I will not drink coffee this weekend, and many more. One of the most moving examples was when I read that someone would go barefoot for me all weekend.
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
It is the love of God that moves hearts; our sacrifices help reveal that love.
Members Present: Jason Buckman, Kenny Quinton, Frank Cates, Mark Floyd, Debbie Hollowell, Clay Norman, Barbara Thomas, Stacy Baker, Randy Trent, Joey Willett, Grover Fischbeck (remote cell phone) Members Absent: Megan Randolph, Jim Lyon, Sharron Willett Guests: Krissie Hodge and Jon House Meditation: Jason Buckman discussed the importance of an individual’s testimony and that God even has a testimony. How do we know that Jesus Christ is the Messiah? We know because God testifies about His Son giving it all. Jesus is the only way to eternal life. 1 John 5:6-15 states the Spirit, the water, and the blood all testify to this. God has given us eternal life, and the life is in his Son. Minutes: Minutes from the May 2026 meeting were read and approved after a motion by Joey Willett and seconded by Randy Trent. Minutes from the July 2026 meeting were read and approved after a motion by Stacy Baker and seconded by Mark Floyd. Treasurer’s Report: Barbara Thomas presented the financial reports for May, June, and July 2026. Reports were approved after a motion by Stacy Baker and seconded by Clay Norman Pre Cursillo Report: No Report Post Cursillo Report: Good turnout for Ultreya at Cairo and Ultreya at Webb Palanca Report: No Report Spiritual Director Report: Spiritual Leaders for the fall set of weekends are covered Old Business: Krissie Hodge and John House stated their teams are coming together for the next set of weekends.
We need to ensure we have something in place to clean up Webb Memorial Church after our set of weekends are completed. Discussion was had about a predetermined cleanup crew or hiring an outside entity or a combination.
The shower trailer will need to be cleaned and winterized after the fall set of weekends
We are still researching the proper insurance coverage for the shower trailer New Business: Jason mentioned the possibility of starting a “Leader Training” for current 4th Day Members. Training would be conducted monthly or quarterly and focus on weekend job descriptions or other necessary topics. This has been similar in years past. The Catholic Cursillo has long had training called The School of Leaders.
Kenny discussed having Holly publish Palanca needs from other communities. These needs could be published in the monthly Scratchings and Facebook.
Kenny discussed the possibility of implementing a “Church Champion” within all 4th Day Members’ churches. Church Champion would speak with their pastor and other 4th Day Members in their church about upcoming weekends and filling out team applications and recommend new candidates.
Discussed the possibility of reaching out to 4th Day Members and seeking their input/support if a permanent site became available for Western Kentucky Ecumenical Cursillo. This likely would involve building at least one large structure.
Rector and Rectora candidate lists for Spring 2027 weekends handed out for review, prayer, questions, or concerns for next month’s vote
Pray for Jason and Kenny as they will be attending a Cursillo weekend in Peoria, Illinois, August 27th – 30th.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned after a motion by Clay Norman and seconded by Joey Willett.
