We are 15 days from the start of the Men’s Weekend. What a whirlwind it has been. Praise God for peace, clarity, and provision in the midst of it All.
Every set of weekends is filled with acts of faith and sacrifice. From the prayerful selection of each Rector and Rectora, to team applications, selections, job placements, and talk assignments. Then, in faith, many set aside 5 Saturdays to gather for worship and formation. We look at the candidate list and pray God will send them. For 53 years, this consistent, precious cycle continues, and still we wait. Psalm 38:15 But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.
Some seasons also bring a turn in the furnace of adversity. This has been such a season, a season that bears witness to the goodness of God. May we be like King Nebuchadnezzar, who rose in haste when he witnessed God's provision and declared. “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him..”
If you remember, once safely outside the furnace, the king promoted all three. Family, we have all been promoted to help finish the good work God has begun.
Here is your To-Do-List family:

Further instructing “We are giving you until March 20, 2026, to move all property, the yard building, and any content belonging to Cursillo off of Camp Clarks property or it may be considered abandoned and disposed of at Camp Clarks discretion. Full Letter attached
Chris Willett and Jason Hedrick will coordinate the clean out/purge day for the storage building on February 28, 2026.
The mover is on standby for the building and all other Cursillo property.
Discussion was had about moving weekends back to consecutive weekends. Clay Norman made a motion to move Men’s spring weekend to the last weekend in April and the Women’s spring weekend to the first weekend in May. Blair Lamb seconded the motion. Motion approved
New weekend dates as follows: Men April 23-26 Women April 30 – May 3
Discussion about where to conduct the 2026 Spring set of weekends. Kenny Quinton visited three camp settings as possible options. All locations were not as cost effective as desired, and their locations would create long travel times for the 4th Day. Jason Buckman spoke to the Board of Directors for Webb Memorial Church located in Clay, Kentucky and the board agreed Cursillo could utilize Webb Memorial Church, at no cost, for both sets of spring weekends. We would have to research alternative shower capabilities as Webb Memorial Church currently only has two showers. Additionally beds would be needed. Grover Fischbeck made a motion to conduct the 2026 Spring Cursillo Weekends at Webb Memorial Church. Debbie Hollowell seconded the motion. Motion approved
Blair Lamb made a presentation about the Brain Injury Adventure Camp and possibilities of constructing a building(s) in order to meet the needs of Cursillo. The building(s) would be in addition to the current structures on site.
After a discussion, a motion was made by Blair Lamb and seconded by Sharon Willett to continue exploring BIAC as a possible future building site and supporting committees as needed.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned after a motion by Jim Lyon and seconded by Randy Trent.
Respectfully submitted,
Frank Cates
Secretariat Board Meeting Special Called Meeting March 12, 2026
Members Present: Stacy Baker, Jason Buckman, Frank Cates, Grover Fischbeck, Mark Floyd, Debbie Hollowell, Blair Lamb, Jim Lyon, Clay Norman, Kenny Quinton, Randy Trent, Joey Willett, Sharon Willett Members Absent: Barbara Thomas
Meditation: Jason Buckman read from 1 Corinthians 1:17 – 1 Corinthians 2:16 discussing what may seem foolishness to the world, but is actually the power of God. It is a spiritual thing that the natural mind cannot conceive.
A Motion to suspend Regular Order was made by Grover Fischbeck and seconded by Frank Cates. Motion passed.
A lengthy discussion was had concerning issues for the upcoming weekends to be held at Webb Memorial. Primary concerns were the lack of showers and beds at the facility and moving forward with the weekends as scheduled.
On the issue of showers, the discussion included renting showers and building out a shower trailer. Renting showers is very expensive—the lowest price so far is approximately $8,000.00 for the weekends. There is a possibility of buying an enclosed trailer and building it out as a shower trailer. Concerns about building out a shower trailer included cost, storage after the weekend, and inspections.
On the issue of beds, the discussion included the need for beds & cots, the availability of mattresses, and storage concerns.
An open, honest, and varied discussion on moving forward with the weekends proceeded.
Concerns discussed, and opinions shared:
Are we rushing into this? Are we listening to God? Will moving forward with this weekend be detrimental to the movement? What is our long-term goal? Should we put a cap on the number of candidates allowed at the weekend to ease shower and bed concerns? Are we doing something to get by or looking for something long-term? It won’t destroy Cursillo if we postpone the weekend. Should sponsors make sure candidates are prepared for the facility—think like you are going camping. Lastly, a primary concern moving forward with the weekends is funding to cover the cost of showers and beds.
A motion to postpone the weekends until fall was made by Grover Fischbeck and seconded by Clay Norman. Motion failed.
Clay Norman made a motion to allow 3 weeks to solve the issue with beds and showers without accessing general funds. If by the end of the 3rd formation on March 28th, 2026, there are not 40 beds and an 8 shower trailer, or funds sufficient to source same, the spring weekends will be postponed. Joey Willett seconded the motion. Motion passed, with 2 opposed. Motion carried.
Kenny will address the teams on Saturday at the first formation and those who attend the Ultreya Saturday evening. He will inform them of the board’s decision. The full community will be informed via a Scratchings email and Facebook.
A request was made for board members to begin thinking about who to contact for raising funds for the beds and showers. Our next meeting will be the regularly scheduled meeting on March 19, 2026, at Chapel Hill.
A motion to adjourn was made by Grover Fischbeck and seconded by Clay Norman.
