The weekends are fast approaching as our first Team Formation is this Saturday, September 13th, at the Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This season of preparing for and anticipating the weekends can be exciting. Perhaps you are working on a team, or your candidate has said yes to attending; how exciting! Or maybe you have a gift for praying and sacrificing to support the weekend, your anticipation is growing.
I don’t want to ignore the other side of this excitement. Sometimes, adding Cursillo commitments to already full lives can feel daunting. I know it well, and I join you in that tension. This is not meant to discourage us—rather, it reminds us that meaningful Kingdom work often comes at a cost. That is why we pray over these choices and trust that God will provide His peace and provision for the tasks ahead.
Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Philippians 4:6–7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
So, in the weeks ahead, if that familiar tension arises between your Cursillo commitments and other areas of your life..... Fear not, Do not be anxious about anything, and - “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”Colossians 3:15
Come and worship, Family, for all is now ready and the time to celebrate is here! May we ALWAYS set aside any dread and gladly respond: Let us celebrate then, not as though no change has taken place in our lives, but with rejoicing for being saved to a new life!
Now, our To-Do-List
Pray for David and Jill and the teams God has provided.
Pray for and ask the candidate God has pointed out to you.
Pray and sign up for acts of service and sacrifice.
Check our Facebook page more often as the weekends approach.
Members present: Jason Buckman, Stacey Baker, Keith Buckman, Jason Hedrick, Donna Jewell, Blair Lamb, Jim Lyon, Clay Norman, Kenny Quinton, Megan Randolph, Barbara Thomas, Mark Thomas, Randy Trent, Joey Willett. Stephan Baker
Opening Prayer: Jason Hedrick
Meditation: Jason Buckman discussed the art of prayer. Prayer does not need to be eloquent; a simple prayer is good. God listens to all prayers. When we pray, we need to be specific, and we can pray for ourselves as well for others. God listens to all prayers. Scriptures: 1 Chronicles 4:10, Ephesians 6, Luke 18
Minutes: Minutes of the April 2025 meeting were read and approved after a motion by Jason Hedrick and second by Joey Willett.
Treasurers Report: Barbara Thomas presented the treasurer’s report. It was noted that the cost to maintain/update the new website will be $500 annually. Report approved after a motion
by Keith Buckman and second by Stacey Baker
Pre Cursillo Report: The camp was clean with no issues reported by the camp director. Jason Buckman asked about a solution to the metal grate outside the door at the end of the candidate dorm.
Will look at possible options for improved safety at that exit.
Post Cursillo Report: The next Ultreya will be May 31 at Clay Community Church. The date was changed due to the dates of the spring weekends and holidays in May.
Spiritual Director Report: Jason Buckman stated everything went well on both weekends.
Old Business: Joey Willett stated that there were missing song books after the weekends, and some song books had not been updated. Keith Buckman will lead a committee to update the song books including the theme songs from past weekends as well as possibly deleting songs that are no longer used. Noted that editing the books will also require changing the table of contents in all the books.
Jason led a discussion regarding the selection of clergy to serve each weekend. The members present supported his assessment that clergy would serve in that capacity and not rotate between having team specific jobs (table leader, palanca, etc.) on future weekends.
The Lay Director is encouraged to be present as an observer as much as desired on both men’s and women’s weekends if they are not already working the team.
Blair Lamb reminded the members about board attendance requirements.
New Business: A review of the last set of weekends was made:
Everything seemed to go well on both weekends. Candidates’ responses at closing was excellent.
When doing talk critiques, the input needs to be specific. (Follow outline, appropriate illustrations and personal witness if talk requires).
Heads of specific jobs need to have worked that position in the past.
The Spiritual Director and Lay Director need to have close input in table pairings.
Saturday afternoon prayer chapel needs to be set up early as possible prior to the event.
Decoration in the dining room should be kept as simple as possible.
When making job assignments for the weekends, ensure that the same person does not work the same job multiple weekends in a row.
There will be no scheduled board meetings in June and July unless any issues arise that require an in- person meeting.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned after a motion by Barbara Thomas and second by Joey Willett.
Closing prayer: Joey Willett
